Haydon Bridge: Extra smooth barman’s body wax raises £1000 –

BARMAN Carl Eales has raised £1,000 for children with Down’s Syndrome after braving a body wax in the pub where he works.

Carl (22) stripped down to his boxer shorts at the General Havelock Inn, Haydon Bridge, where beautician Tania Fowler removed his body hair in front of punters.

The mammoth fund-raising effort in the village has doubled the original target of £500, and all proceeds will go to Hexham’s pre-school education centre for children with Down’s Syndrome.

Former Haydon Bridge High School pupil Carl, a well known rugby player for Kielder-based Border Park, said: “I would like to thank everyone who contributed because we have raised a lot of money – far beyond our original target, and I am pleased that it has been such a success.

“One of our customers has a son who goes to the education centre. I am well aware of the work it does and it’s a worthy cause to support.”

Carl raised £976, while Gary and Joanne Thompson, who have run the Havelock for the past 13 years, topping up the total to £1,000.

The pub has contributed to several fund-raising projects in recent years.
